THE POSITION
Our client is looking to bring onboard a high-caliber Business Development scholar to strengthen the Global Strategy & Corporate Development organization while playing a key role in shaping the company’s external growth agenda.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to source, evaluate and execute in-licensing, out-licensing, alliance and acquisition deals that expand or optimize the company’s pipeline. Acting as Transaction-lead, Co-lead or Support, the role will orchestrate cross-functional due-diligence teams, craft data-driven opportunity assessments, build valuation models, and negotiate term sheets and agreements in close partnership with R&D, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, and Commercial teams.

As our client prepares pivotal launches and expands geographically, the candidate’s work will directly influence strategic decision-making at Board level, giving the successful candidate significant scope to drive both tactical agreements and long-term portfolio growth.

POSITION PROFILE
Position title: Director, Business Development & Licensing (BD&L).
   
Reporting line: Global Head of Business Development
   
Location: Greater Copenhagen
   
Traveling: As needed in a global BD role
   
Responsibilities & Tasks:
 
  • Strategic sourcing of deal-flow opportunities in line with the company’s corporate strategy.
  • Evaluating and executing business development opportunities, hereunder leading end‑to‑end evaluation and execution of in‑licensing and out‑licensing opportunities, deal sourcing, M&A and strategic alliances, from early (pre‑clinical) to commercial‑stage assets.
  • Coordinating cross‑functional due‑diligence teams as Transaction-lead, Co-lead or Support while building and presenting business cases to executive management.
  • Developing, modelling and presenting opportunity assessments including valuation, risk mitigation, timelines, competitive landscaping etc. 
  • Negotiating term sheets and contracts in close collaboration with Regulatory, Market Access, Legal, Finance, R&D and Operations.
  • Conducting market intelligence and competitive analysis to identify short-growth opportunities, portfolio optimization opportunities while proactively mitigating risks of the company.
  • Maintaining an up‑to‑date external network to identify relevant emerging opportunities, and partnership trends.
  • Proactively managing and optimizing a robust pipeline of BD opportunities to ensure timely execution in line with corporate strategy.
  • Overseeing in-licensing and out-licensing processes to ensure executive management transparency and alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

  • Building a continuously robust pipeline of qualified BD opportunities progressed in accordance with agreed milestones and corporate targets.
  • Ensuring seemless communication with internal and external stakeholders to develop an environment of transparency and collaboration.
  • Ensuring effective BD execution – hereunder delivering on BD project objectives, tracking execution and mitigating risks.
  • Ensuring a positive external perception of the company as a partner of choice.
 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Educational background: Advanced degree in Sciences (MSc or PhD) and/or Business (e.g. MBA).
   
Language: English – fluent (verbally and written).
   
Ideal experience:
  •  5+ years of progressive experience in business development, licensing or related role within the Life Sciences space, venture‑capital or private‑equity industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of conducting commercial analysis and leading complex negotiations/transactions and closing high‑value deals.
  • Broad experience in deal sourcing, maturation and transaction.
  •  Broad Life Sciences industry network and credibility.
  • Deep understanding of BD collaboration structures and valuation methodologies incl. Fin. modelling experience.
