Our client develops and manufactures medical devices used in surgical procedures by health care professionals all over the world.  As an innovation and manufacturing house, our client provides full circle competences from identification and investigation of the initial user need, to concept and product development based on clinical insights, and finally to product registration, manufacturing, sterilization, and delivery to the market.

Supply Chain Management
Supply Chain Management (SCM) at our client spans contract management, negotiation, and supply chain setup in operations and development projects. SCM is responsible for all spend on suppliers, service partners (direct and indirect), and contract manufacturers for both the Danish and Polish manufacturing sites.

Moreover, SCM is responsible for ensuring continuous supply continuity throughout the value chain by implementing category and risk management.

The SCM department encompasses a team of 3 Sr. Managers/Managers and 16 colleagues, including Supply Chain Specialists, Category Managers, Purchase Specialists, Compliance Partners, and Planners. The Category Managers are responsible for strategic sourcing covering direct spend, CMOs, and indirect spend, including equipment and machinery. They are also responsible for all aspects of supplier management, including supplier selection, negotiation, and collaboration, as well as risk mitigation, spend/savings programs, and category strategies.

Additionally, the SCM organization is responsible for operational procurement, quality & compliance, production planning/master scheduling, customer service and coordination of shipping/transports.
 
THE POSITION
The Director, Supply Chain Management will assume full responsibility and leadership of the global SCM function and team of dedicated managers, specialists and professionals at our client. The role will report directly to the Vice President, Operations and occupy a seat on the Global Operations Management team.

The role will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and execute SCM strategies that support our client’s business objectives. Hence, strong stakeholder management capabilities are required, both in relations to internal stakeholders, but also towards key external stakeholders such as our client’s long-standing partner: Ethicon.

The ideal candidate is well-versed across the SCM palette and possesses a good mix of SCM operational as well as SCM development capabilities. Thus, the profile preferably possesses experience with the development and implementation of new system upgrades, new SCM technologies (e.g. AI) and continuous improvement.

Consequently, the position calls for a senior, highly experienced Supply Chain Management executive of international caliber, preferably from the MedTech/Pharma space, with a proven track record of strong organizational leadership and expertise in SCM subject matter. Moreover, the ideal candidate should be able to navigate short term issues while never losing sight of the long-term priorities. Finally, the ideal candidate is open, honest, organized, structured and displays high initiative, self-motivation, and energy.
 
POSITION PROFILE
Position title: Director, Supply Chain Management.
   
Reporting line: Vice President, Operations.
   
Reporting to the position: Approx. 3 direct Sr. Manager/Manager reports and 16 FTEs altogether.
   
Location: Greater Copenhagen.
   
Traveling: 10-20 days p.a.
   
Responsibilities & Tasks:
 
General
  • Developing and implementing our client’s Supply Chain Strategy in alignment with the company’s overall business strategy.
  • Daily management of the Supply Chain Management organization.
  • Ensuring the continuous development of employees in order to fill current and future capability gaps.
  • Ensuring that the Supply Chain lives up to current legislation and requirements.
  • Ensuring alignment between budget, forecast, and realized sales.
  • Ensuring that supply chain obstacles are solved timely to maintain supply and deliveries.

Direct spend and CMOs
  • Establishing and maintaining category strategies.
  • Ensuring full contract coverage with direct spend suppliers and CMOs.
  • Managing suppliers’ base in accordance with supplier categorization.
  • Ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures are updated timely at CMOs.
  • Ensuring the delivery of goods in time to uphold agreed inventory targets.
  • Managing changes and non-conformities in accordance with Our client’s QMS.

Indirect spend
  • Ensuring contracts with approved suppliers, incl. optimal cost setup and minimum risk for our client.
  • Maintaining updated ASL (Approved Supplier List).
  • Interacting with suppliers, ensuring that they fulfill agreements.

Planning and customer service
  • Establishing production plan and kitting plans to secure reliable lead times, forecasted volumes, and timely delivery to our client’s customers.
  • Effectively collaborating with customers and forwarders.
  • Ensuring effective handling of transport flows.
  • Ensuring optimal internal coordination with the relevant department(s) to ensure the planning of manufacturing, release, and shipments.

Projects and support
  • Ensuring that Supply Chain Management supports the development of projects across our client.
  • Overall responsible for our client’s Supply Chain Risk Management process including timely handling of mitigation.
  • Identifying, supporting, and participating in improvement and optimization projects/initiatives across the supply chain to minimize risk and ensure effective flows and processes.
  • Participating in the implementation of strategic initiatives across our client.
  • Improving and ensuring the best usage of supply chain systems.
  • Overall responsible for our client’s internal capacity overview and with selected suppliers/CMOs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Educational background: Academic education – Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, Engineering, and/or Graduate Diploma in Business Administration or similar.
   
Language: Fluency in English (verbally and written)
   
Ideal experience:
  • Multiple years of Supply Chain Management experience – from the Pharma or Medical Device industry, including GMP/GDP.
  • Strong track record in building value-adding relationships with suppliers, business partners, authorities, and other external stakeholders.
  • Experience with Master Scheduling, Inventory Analysis & Management, and ERP systems.
  • Strong track record in managing teams effectively in a fast-paced/dynamic environment – preferably with experience in managing through managers.
  • Well-versed in the principles of Lean/Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement as applied to Supply Chain.
  • Strong knowledge in setting and monitoring KPIs and performance management.
  • Successful management of strategy and large change management processes.
  • Strong IT skills, including knowledge of SAP or similar systems.
